There were only two bandits standing in the room now, one of them was Brotton, back from the dead having survived the explosion. Valguard’s hands were still fastened behind his back and he needed them freed before he could confront him. He turned away and ran towards the far wall, passing the unconscious rapist who was still lying in his own sick – little air bubbles popping through his mess. He pelted towards a latticed window frame, presumably overlooking the courtyard if his bearings were right, leapt up into the air, brought his knees tight to his chest and moved his hands in front of his feet. His shoulder crashed into the glass panels and he disappeared sideways into the darkness amongst splinters of wood and glass.
